Flipkart Group commits to attaining net-zero carbon emissions by 2040

According to a statement, Flipkart Group, has committed to attaining net-zero carbon emissions in its own activities by 2030 and the greater value chain by 2040.

As part of this pledge, the Flipkart Group will lower its own emissions by 100% by 2030 by enhancing energy efficiency at its corporate headquarters and supply chain facilities, as well as powering its energy needs with renewable sources like as solar.

Recognizing that the majority of the climate impact comes from Flipkart’s extended value chain of suppliers, waste in operations, transportation and logistics, and product end-of-life, the company said in a statement that it will also work with its sellers, consumers, and partners to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

To accomplish a clearly defined decarbonisation roadmap, Flipkart Group will focus on important areas of impact like sustainable platforms, responsible value chains, and positive collaborations. According to the company, Flipkart Group’s environmental goals are in line with the global Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi) of keeping global temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius as per the Paris Climate Agreement, and it is the only e-commerce firm in India to commit to net-zero targets.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Group, said that as part of their net-zero efforts, their sustainability activities will involve the greater ecosystem, which includes their sellers, consumers, and brands, in order to effect an industry-wide transformation. They recognize the significance of working together to decrease climate impact and will continue to direct their efforts toward this goal and decarbonizing the e-commerce value chain.
