Five unauthorized textile dyeing units pulled down by TNPCB today

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board authorities have dismantled five unauthorized textile dyeing units at Pallipalayam towns today which discharge effluents into water sources. Due to this people there are suffering without water and continuing pollution

Although Pallipalayam and Namakkal towns developed primarily because of the large number of power looms, handlooms and textile processing units such as dyeing units. But there are many unauthorized dyeing units.

People living in villages in and around the two towns are unable to use water from open wells and bore wells due to the large scale pollution that has changed the colour of the water.

Board sources said that similar action was taken some months back when about 55 unauthorized dyeing units in and around Pallipalayam and Namakkal, which were also discharging effluents into water sources, were sealed.

In fact, three months ago the district administration had announcement through revenue department officials, to stop operation of the units, in a bid to put an end to large scale discharge of effluents into the river – till water released from Mettur Dam became normal. A few units were also evicted for not taking the announcement seriously.

The TNPCB authorities said that now appropriate action will be taken against the remaining closed factories also within a day or two.

TNPCB to continue it drive till all the unapproved textile processing units are demolished.
