Fendi launches denim collection made with banana fiber

Fendi has introduced a new denim collection that highlights banana fibre as a premium material for luxury fashion. The collection features fabrics developed by Italian textile mill Berto Industria Tessile using Bananatex, a durable, biodegradable and plastic-free fabric made entirely from regeneratively grown abacá banana plants.

Abacá is considered the world’s strongest natural plant fibre. It is grown in biodiverse agroforestry systems and is currently cultivated only in the Philippines, Costa Rica and Ecuador.

The fabric used in the collection is made from 55% organic cotton and 45% abacá fibre. It comes from Berto’s Musa Collection, which includes fabrics containing 36% to 45% Bananatex in different weights, constructions and textures to suit a variety of premium applications.

According to Fendi, the fabric combines naturally strong fibres with traditional indigo craftsmanship, bringing together regenerative farming, responsible dyeing and advanced weaving and finishing techniques. The brand describes the collection as a blend of natural materials and modern textile innovation.
