Everlane launches its first cleanest denim collection to date

Everlane, a sustainable denim manufacturer has launched its cleanest denim to date, following through on its promise to use only certified organic cotton by 2023. Candiani Denim’s organic cotton and Roica V550 blend fabrics were used to create Clean Denim, a three-piece denim collection.

This variant of Roica V550 yarn was created specifically for Candiani by Roica’s parent firm, Asahi Kasei, and launched in 2019 as the first C2C-certified Gold stretch fiber. It has subsequently been included in collections from labels including G-Star. Everlane was one of the first denim brands in the United States to employ the material.

Unlike other stretch fibers that pollute the environment as they deteriorate, the Roica V550 degrades without releasing any hazardous chemicals, according to Hohenstein Institute’s verification and testing. The invention received an “environmental compatibility” accreditation from an international research and testing company.

In addition to using cleaner stretch fibers, the brand has announced that all of its denim will be made from organic cotton. Everlane has previously utilized organic cotton in denim—and last year released a T-shirt made from GOTS-certified organic cotton farmed and processed in India’s Madhya Pradesh region—but this is the first whole collection to include the fiber since setting that aim.

All clothing items in the Clean collection have 98.5% GOTS-certified organic cotton and 1.5%  Roica. Microplastic-free colors and recyclable trim are used to create each item. In light and dark washes, the Clean Denim collection comprises high-rise baggy jeans, high-rise denim shorts with a frayed hem, and a denim jacket.
