Ethnicraft is adding a softer side to its wooden furniture with the debut this month of its first home textiles collection.
Refined Layers “perfectly embodies what Ethnicraft stands for: quality, originality, and warmth,” the company noted in describing its new pillows and throws.
Rolling out this month to its retail partners in the U.S. and already available online on its website, the program was designed by Dawn Sweitzer, who also designed the company’s Notre Monde collection of trays and occasional furniture.
Sweitzer, who is based in High Point, NC, said she was inspired by her travels and love of nature. As soon as she came up with the right color, texture and materials for her minimalistic-to-abstract patterns, she hand-wove her vision on an artisanal loom in her studio.
“I wanted to achieve a sense of balance between a modern, uncluttered style and my own bohemian and refined influences,” she explained. “At one point in the process, I let things develop on their own, in a way that is organic. I am fascinated by the way beauty can manifest when something doesn’t go right during the creative process.”
The pillows and throws are crafted from natural fiber-made weaving yarns – including cotton, wool and Belgian linen – produced in Belgium, France, Italy and Peru. The pillows feature a warm palette of soft whites, grays and mustard, and are manufactured from jacquard fabrics in a Belgian family-owned weaving mill.
