Egypt accelerates textile industry expansion to strengthen exports

Egypt’s textile industry is undergoing one of the most important expansions in its modern industrial history. The country is positioning itself as a competitive hub for textile and garment exports by responding to changes in global supply chains and strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors.

As global textile supply chains shift due to geopolitical tensions, changing trade policies, and higher logistics costs, international buyers are reducing dependence on traditional Asian sourcing centres. Egypt has taken advantage of this shift with clear results. Industry data shows that ready-made garment exports rose by about 26% in the first seven months of 2025, reaching nearly $1.94 billion, compared to $1.54 billion during the same period last year.

Egypt has also outlined a more ambitious long-term goal of reaching $20 billion in apparel exports by 2030. This target supports the Egypt Vision 2030 strategy, which focuses on industrial diversification, export growth, and stronger participation in global markets.

To improve competitiveness and upgrade older facilities, the Egyptian government has launched a wide-ranging programme to modernise the textile and spinning sector. This includes investments in factory upgrades, operational restructuring, and the adoption of modern manufacturing technologies. These government-led efforts aim to improve efficiency, raise product quality, and enhance export readiness.
