EDA selects REGEN Project for circularity in defence sector

The European Defence Agency (EDA) has chosen the REGEN project as one of three new programs aimed at introducing circular economy practices within the defence sector. Uplift360, a leading company in advanced material recycling based in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, will play a key role in the project. The company specializes in recycling and regenerating aramid fibers, which are vital for producing high-performance materials used in defence.

Aramid fibers, commonly used in ballistic vests, are difficult to recycle because of the PFAS coatings applied to them. Uplift360 is working to develop new methods to safely remove these coatings and improve the quality of recycled aramids. The goal is to create recycled fibers with consistent performance and work closely with manufacturers for continuous product improvement.

The REGEN project brings together several partners including FECSA and AITEX from Spain, Uplift360, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Together, they aim to speed up the shift to a circular economy in defence by promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and responsible use of materials.

“Project REGEN is a major step forward for circularity in defence materials, and we are proud to be part of it,” said Chris Jenkins, R\&D Director at Uplift360. “It’s also a key achievement for our team as we work to showcase real-world applications of our Renew aramid recycling technology.”
