Clariant advances sustainable mattress production

Clariant, headquartered in Muttenz, Switzerland, has set a new benchmark in mattress production with its Licocene PP 1602, 2402, 2502, 2602, and 3602 polymers. These innovative polypropylene-based materials outperform traditional EVA adhesives, offering exceptional bond strength and thermal stability without requiring additional additives like tackifiers or plasticizers. This advancement reduces VOC emissions and eliminates odour, ensuring healthier production environments and greater consumer comfort.

A key feature of Licocene polymers is their efficiency in reducing material and energy consumption. By enabling precise adhesive application, manufacturers can use less material while maintaining strong bonds, leading to significant cost savings. The low viscosity of these polymers also facilitates the use of smaller nozzles, boosting productivity by minimizing maintenance and enabling faster production speeds.

Licocene polymers enhance every stage of mattress production. For ticking fabrics, Licocene PP 2602 and PP 3602 provide a durable coating that locks fibres in place, preventing seam slippage and fraying, while allowing for custom features like water resistance and antimicrobial properties.

In premium innerspring mattresses, Licocene PP 2402 and PP 2502 excel at bonding fabric pockets for pocket coil systems, delivering durable and consistent adhesion. These polymers penetrate nonwoven layers effectively, ensuring long-lasting mattress quality and comfort.

For foam-layered mattresses, Licocene polymers ensure strong adhesion between foam components, preserving structural integrity and reducing noise. Additionally, Licocene PP 1602 offers anti-slip properties, keeping mattresses secure on smooth surfaces without leaving sticky residues.
