Chattisgarh silk weaving gets new lease of life

Indian silk industry has registered an impressive growth in the last six decades. The plans implemented by Centre and state agencies and tireless efforts of thousands of dedicated people have been very helpful in this context. Now on the special initiative of the district administration of Chattisgarh, some places are being identified for the purpose of providing employment in the district and for the production of tussar production.

A crucial step in the success story of the district’s silk department was the emphasis on the participation of women in the work of weaving thread women’s self-help group of National Rural Livelihood Mission with about 100 women under the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Plan After 45 days of training have played an invaluable role in the entire process.

In Chattisgarh women have joined the process of tussar weaving in a big way and are playing an invaluable part in continuing to weave its traditional beauty in the present hereby ensuring its continual presence in the days to come.

They are now becoming self-reliant with the commendable efforts of the district administration their efforts have catapulted Jashpur district to the top in the field of tussar production today.

These women today on the basis of their skill and confidence have proved that they are capable of handling any challenge of the world with dignity.

The silk department has planted 1600 hectare in order to produce tussar and today 1,200 women of 60 self-help groups have joined the campaign launched with 100 women.

Silk is an intrinsic part of the life and culture of Indians a rich and comprehensive history of silk production and a traditional and cultural domestic market has ensured the availability of excellent variety of silk fabrics and the position of a leader in the silk industry.
