C&A launches sustainable denim flooring in flagship stores

C&A, a leading European fashion retailer, has introduced an innovative eco-friendly flooring made from recycled denim fabric. This new sustainable design was launched with the reopening of the C&A flagship store on Mariahilfer Strasse in Vienna. The next store to feature this denim flooring will be in Madrid’s Parquesur shopping center in December.

The flooring is made from surplus denim material sourced from C&A’s FIT (Factory for Innovation in Textiles) in Mönchengladbach, with future plans to incorporate denim returned by customers. For every square meter of flooring, about one kilogram of denim off-cuts is recycled, reducing textile waste and adding a unique design element to C&A stores.

The flooring was developed by Swiss company LICO, using a combination of denim fabric remnants, cork from the bottling industry, and wood-based boards. To create the flooring, natural materials such as vegetable fats and natural rubber are used, ensuring durability in high-traffic retail environments. This flooring concept is being tested by C&A as part of an exclusive pilot project.

LICO manufactures the flooring in Europe, prioritizing sustainable practices with 80 percent of the materials being recycled. The energy used for production is sourced from renewable options like LICO’s photovoltaic plant and local hydroelectric power facilities.
