BMW M Concept Neue Klasse uses flax composite materials from Bcomp

The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, recently unveiled during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, features extensive use of sustainable natural fibre composites developed through BMW’s partnership with Swiss materials company Bcomp.

The concept vehicle incorporates Bcomp’s ampliTex woven flax composites in both interior and exterior components. A visible fiber composite roof featuring an M-branded graphic highlights a custom weave and colour created specifically for the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, ampliTex serves as a structural material in the backrests of the four newly developed bucket seats, demonstrating its suitability for high-performance automotive applications.

According to Bcomp, ampliTex offers a high stiffness-to-weight ratio and provides safer crash behaviour than conventional carbon fibre composites. It also delivers excellent vibration damping and full radio transparency, making it suitable for modern vehicle designs.

Compared to traditional carbon fibre composites used in performance vehicles, the Swiss-designed and manufactured ampliTex material can reduce cradle-to-gate carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by up to 85%. At the end of its service life, components made from ampliTex can be processed through standard waste-to-energy facilities, allowing energy to be recovered through an environmentally responsible disposal process.
