Birla Cellulose joins ‘Circular Fashion Partnership’ to enhance circularity

Birla Cellulose, one of the global leaders in Man-Made Cellulose Fibre (MMCF) which is a part of Aditya Birla Group has joined the “Circular Fashion Partnership.” This is a cross-sectorial project led by Reverse Resources, Global Fashion Agenda, and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) which demonstrates a Circular Fashion Business Case in Bangladesh to accelerate the transition to the circular fashion industry.

Birla Cellulose is excited to be part of this partnership. To capture and upscale textile waste into LIVA Reviva which is an innovative circular product offering, Birla Cellulose will work with well-known global fashion brands, manufacturers, and recyclers.

Business Director of Birla Cellulose, Mr. Dilip Gaur said that following circular economy principles is becoming mainstream and in line with UN SDG 12 & 17. For building sustainable businesses capable of consistently delivering best-in-class environmental performance, Birla Cellulose will work closely with the various stakeholders, underpinned by responsible stewardship philosophy.

In the last 2 years, the reverse logistics which Birla Cellulose has already established by closely working with Reverse Resources will be scaled up through this partnership.

Birla Cellulose is a leading sustainability-focused MMCF producer which operates around 12 fiber and pulp sites globally using closed-loop processes. The company is a leader in sustainable sourcing practices. For its sustainable forestry practices and development of ‘Next Generation’ solutions for alternative feedstock, they hold the first rank in Canopy’s Hot Button Report 2020. The blockchain-based traceability tool GreenTrackTM of Birla Cellulose is the most used tool to establish traceability of garments from forest to fashion.

based on its proprietary technology, the circular product of Birla Cellulose has grabbed the imagination of sustainability focussed brands and is growing rapidly. One of the reasons behind the success of LIVA Revivat is that, for sourcing cotton waste, Birla Cellulose is continuing to invest in developing a reverse logistics framework.

To evolve waste segregation protocols, Birla Cellulose has partnered with several manufacturers for ensuring that the collected cotton waste conforms to standards required for viscose manufacturing. In return to this, compared to the incumbent down-cycling recycling measures, the manufacturers gain access to a superior recycling option.
