BD urges India to take step so trade barriers cannot hinder bilateral trade

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed after attending the inaugural function of a two-day partnership summit organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce and Ministry for Trade and Industries, called on the Indian Minister to take steps so that tariff and non-tariff barriers cannot hinder bilateral trade.

Referring to imposition of anti-dumping duty by India on jute goods from Bangladesh, the commerce minister said that this will adversely import export of jute products. He stressed the need for lifting anti-dumping taxes and holding official talks to remove trade barriers.

Bangladesh cannot export expected volume of goods to India because of trade barriers.

While holding a meeting with Indian Trade and Industries Minister Nirmala Sitaraman at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in India Tofail said that Export-import should be increased by barriers to Bangladesh’s trade with India.

Bangladesh is progressing fast in social and economic sectors under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The current GDP growth rate in Bangladesh is 7.11 against 7.6 in India, Tofail added.

Bangladesh is the second largest exporting country in this region after India with an export volume of US$ 34 billion, Tofail Ahmed said, adding that the global research organizations have appreciated Bangladesh’s advancement.
