Bangladesh Denim Expo aiming to attract global buyers

The Bangladesh Denim Expo celebrates the country’s role in shaping the denim scene today. The third edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo to take place n the capital Dhaka aims at attracting global buyers through showcasing jeans wear and latest accessories. More than 40 exhibitors from 10 countries – Bangladesh, Japan, USA, Germany, Spain, China, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Belgium – have already registered to participate in the expo to showcase their denim pants, fabrics and latest accessories.

The Denim expo is organized by Denim Expert Limited, a Bangladesh-Netherlands joint venture operating in the Chittagong-based Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone, to popularize the denim products across the world. Denim Expert Ltd also supplies its BlueXonly brand products to boutiques in different European countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary and Italy. It makes jeans for both men and women, and 60 percent of its products are sold under its own brand.

The exhibitors include A&E, Absolute, Argon, Benjie, Denim Co. Denim Expert Ltd., Deridesen, Diamond, DyStar, Envoy, Experience, Freedom, Hyosung, Iberlaser, Indigo, Juki, Kassim, Kipas, Kurabo, Kuroki, Landes, Mahmud, Malwa, Nassa, Naveena, Paddock’s, Partex, Rajby, Raymond, Shasha, Soorty, South China, Square, Suryalakshmi, Vita, W Denim, YKK and Yogotex.

The Denim expo will also include a number of seminars on further sustainable development of denim sector. During the seminars, a group of international experts are expected to address all aspects of sustainability, ecology and conciousness encompassing the rage of manufacturing to dyeing and wet-processing, the organizer said in its latest announcement.

Bangladesh is the world’s second largest producer of denim apparel after China, shipping more than 185 million pieces of denim wears across the globe and earning around US$ 600 million per year from denim exports.

In Bangladesh, there are around 25 denim factories are currently operating, who produce around 20 million yards of the fabric every month to meet half of the local demand. The rest is imported. Total investment in the sub-sector stands at US$ 835 million (BDT 65 billion).

Bangladeshi entrepreneurs supply denim to major retailers and brands, including H&M, Uniqlo, Levis, Nike, Tesco, Wrangler, s.Oliver, Hugo Boss, Puma, Primark, JC Penney, C&A, Tommy Hilfiger, Inditex, Walmart, M&S, Calvin Klein, Diesel, Gap, Channel and Dior and G-Star.

The two-day long exhibition will be held at Bashundhara Convention City in the capital city beginning on November 11, 2015. Any surplus funds generated by the show will be donated to a seed fund for a Denim university in Bangladesh. Ultimately, this will benefit everyone who trades in this country.
