At Paris Fashion Week, DS Automobiles launches CO2 absorbent collection

DS Automobiles has launched a clothing collection that absorbs carbon dioxide. This four-piece capsule collection is designed in collaboration with a Parisian fashion brand and a British sustainability research studio to celebrate Paris Fashion Week. The collection consists of a trench coat, a bomber jacket, and two T-shirts. The launch of this collection coincides with the launch of the Autumn/ Winter 2021 women’s collections.

The collection is designed by an emerging unisex streetwear label based in Paris, Egon Lab in collaboration with Post Carbon Lab, a design research studio in London that focuses on sustainability. Each garment was covered with a photosynthetic coating made up of living algae in the studio, which absorbs carbon dioxide and turns it into glucose, a form of sugar.

Over the last 10 weeks, this capsule collection has collected and converted 1,452g of CO2 which is roughly equivalent to the intake of a -year-old oak tree over the course of 6 months. For maximum absorption capability, the bomber jacket and trench coat are both partially coated in the treatment, while the T-shirts are fully treated.

“Power Sustainable Dreams” is the sustainable slogan on all garments. The bomber jacket and trench are branded with the words “Green Bomber” while the T-shirts feature the phrase “Lead the Charge”.

Joint CEOs and artistic directors of Egon Lab, Florentin Glemarec and Kévin Nompeix said that they were inspired by the city of Paris and the strong spirit of their residents and were excited to work with new materials and techniques. The clothing collection of DS is a manifestation of its “Future Craft” philosophy, which combines traditional French savoir-faire or expertise, with a passion for futuristic and sustainable material.

As a sub-brand of Citroën, DS was found in 2009. In 2014 DS became the standalone luxury arm of the PSA group and has become one of the 14 brands under the Stellantis umbrella, which also enclose Fiat Chrysler marque including Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati.

Previously, DS and Egon Lab have teamed up for photoshoots for a number of the marque’s cars, including the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense, DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, and DS 9 E-Tense.
