Anrealage x E Ink
Japanese fashion label Anrealage has incorporated E Ink Prism 3 technology into six dresses presented during its Spring 2027 “SKIN” collection at Paris Fashion Week on September 29. Each dress featured approximately 1,000 to 2,000 individual scale-like components that could change colour and create programmable patterns across the garment’s surface.
The collection demonstrates how electronic ink technology can be integrated into fashion design to create garments with adaptable visual effects. E Ink Prism reflects ambient light to display colours and patterns. Its bistable technology requires power when the displayed image changes but does not need continuous power to maintain it.
The technology extends E Ink’s applications beyond e-readers and electronic labels, having previously been demonstrated on automotive surfaces, interiors and accessories, including colour-changing Delvaux handbags showcased in 2024.
E Ink has presented the technology as a way to create multiple looks from a single garment, potentially offering new possibilities for fashion design. However, the company has not provided a product-level environmental assessment demonstrating the dresses’ sustainability benefits. Details about their power systems, weight, cleaning requirements and potential commercial availability have also not been disclosed.
