Andy Murray to wear merino wool performance gear at Wimbledon

Andy Murray will compete in a new merino wool performance gear designed by AMC in conjunction with The Woolmark Company at Wimbledon this summer.

The first-of-its-kind Merino wool mix tennis gear range was created utilizing cutting-edge technologies to improve athletic performance. The introduction also harkens back to a time before synthetics, when much of the tennis equipment was made of wool.

Andy Murray said he’s been trying the equipment for a few months now and is extremely satisfied with how it feels and performs. He collaborates extensively with the designers on each piece and provides regular input; technical performance is critical to him. It’s also critical that the kit be long-lasting, and he appreciates how unique it looks and feels.

The Woolmark Company’s Managing Director, Stuart McCullough, said the introduction of this cutting-edge gear takes Merino wool to a whole new level of performance on a worldwide scale, demonstrating that Merino wool clothing can be fashionable as well as functional in an elite sports setting.

Merino wool is claimed to offer superior breathability, thermoregulation, and softness close to the skin, allowing players to stay cool and comfortable on the court. According to Woolmark, the fiber’s high natural flexibility makes it ideal for stretching, and its inherent smell resistance keeps players feeling fresher for longer.

Andy will wear the Merino wool clothing during his Wimbledon preparation and during the competition. The collection will be released internationally on June 28th, just in time for the competition.
