Andritz X Tandem Technologies
International technology group ANDRITZ has partnered with Tandem Repeat Technologies, a biotechnology innovator, to scale up production of Procell, a next-generation sustainable fiber for textiles and nonwovens.
Procell, developed and patented by Tandem Repeat, is a biomanufactured, protein-based fiber that combines wool-like softness, high strength, durability, and versatility, making it suitable for a range of applications.
The collaboration merges Tandem Repeat’s expertise in advanced biofabrication with ANDRITZ’s extensive experience in industrial-scale fiber and nonwoven manufacturing systems. Together, they aim to provide commercial production solutions for Procell, using adapted ANDRITZ process equipment to meet the unique material requirements of the new fiber.
According to Dr. Sergey Malkov, VP of Manmade Cellulosic Fibers at ANDRITZ, the partnership represents “a true breakthrough in sustainable materials.” Dr. Melik Demirel, co-founder of Tandem Repeat, emphasized that the collaboration will accelerate commercialization and promote sustainable and resilient supply chains across the textile sector.
