Americhem introduces sustainable antimicrobial textile treatment, nShield

Americhem Inc., a global player in the polymer solutions market, is reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability with a new antimicrobial and odor control treatment for textiles named nShield®. This innovative product utilizes peppermint oil as its active component, known for its therapeutic benefits. Recent studies suggest its potential to offer antibacterial properties and odor neutralization in textile applications.

nShield® provides an environmentally considerate alternative to traditional chemical treatments in textile manufacturing. Beyond sustainability, it contributes to the longevity of fabrics, supporting ecological conservation. By effectively controlling odors, nShield® reduces the need for frequent laundering, conserving energy, water, and minimizing the environmental impact of microplastics in wastewater systems.

In performance testing, nShield® demonstrated its ability to suppress microbial growth, offering effective odor control for up to 50 wash cycles. The product is suitable for various fiber types, including synthetic and natural options, meeting international antibacterial standards. nShield® complies with environmental regulations set by the EPA and BPR, with fully traceable peppermint oil extract.

Americhem is actively researching additional markets and applications where peppermint oil can serve as an alternative to conventional antimicrobial agents. Rose Tu, Managing Director in China and head of Americhem’s Sustainability Advisory Council, emphasized the effectiveness of peppermint oil in nShield® and reiterated the company’s dedication to developing products that are effective and environmentally responsible.
