Alexander McQueen, the British fashion house has donated the surplus fabric stock to students for the second time. This donation was a part of its commitment to young creatives studying fashion and textiles throughout the UK.
The donation scheme was introduced in 2019 by the creative director Sarah Burton in a bid to underpin creative education with the help of redistributing the surplus materials, which have been leftover and stored after the production cycle from womenswear taffetas to menswear tailoring clothes.
Burton said in a statement that extending the program of practical help and encouragement to students and fashion schools is their responsibility. The fabric donations are built on the relationships they have made with educationalists across the UK who are teaching the students belonging to school age to the graduate level and will be expanding out to reach further in 2021.
Taking action in sharing the resources and opening eyes for opportunities has become a central in-house commitment at Alexander McQueen, especially when times are so much more difficult for young creative people and they take it very seriously.
The scheme is organized directly with tutors. To date, fabric donations have been done to more than 20 fashion education community projects and institutions in the UK. Last year, the surplus stock was used in many graduate collections, as well as term course work and workshops.
The fashion house is looking to increase the number of institutions to work so that they can supply more fabric donations to equip students, school-age children, and emerging talents with free resources and provide equal opportunities for young people in education.
Along with this, Alexander McQueen had also designed various projects to inspire students of all ages. These projects are led by members of their specialist teams who share real-life knowledge of pattern cutting, draping, cutting, tailoring, embroidery, textile construction, and collection research.
