Adidas by Stella McCartney launches world’s first vegan football boot with Paul Pogba

Manchester United footballer Paul Pogba and designer Stella McCartney have collaborated with Adidas to unveil the world’s first 100% vegan football boot- Paul Pogba x Adidas by Stella McCartney PREDATOR FREAK.

In May 2020, the World Cup winner had a conversation with McCartney during a lockdown as part of Adidas The Huddle content series, which laid the groundwork for cooperation with the German sports giant for this groundbreaking football-fashion co-creation.

Unlike previous Adidas football boots that employ kangaroo leather, such as the classic Copa Mundial, the components of the gender-neutral Predator Freak includes recyclable materials, are designed to meet both vegan and high-performance standards.

The PREDATOR FREAK was developed with Paul Pogba’s help, and its iteration is a fantastic combination of football playmaking and creative expression. The classic leopard and Earth Protector logos are featured on the distinctive silhouette and fresh white PRIMEKNIT upper. The signal orange Adidas DEMONSKIN rubber spikes, calibrated by a computer algorithm for greater ball control and swerve, are featured on the boot. The Adidas Stella McCartney detailing includes an opalescent finish as well as an ombré rainbow mirror metallic plate and heel logo, which is the first time this element has been seen on a football boot.

McCartney said that Adidas invited Paul and her together for The Huddle last year during the lockdown, which is when this idea was created. Hearing about his enthusiasm for fashion and discovering how much they had in common spurred the idea for co-creating this classic boot. One remark that remained with her was that fashion was a major aspect of his personality both on and off the field, and that it was crucial for this to be reflected in the design.

McCartney added that it was so much fun working together on the design and bouncing ideas off each other, and the boot brilliantly merges the worlds of fashion and football, demonstrating how they can continue to develop while keeping the environment in mind.

During her 15-year association with Adidas, McCartney has frequently pushed the boundaries of high-fashion and performance wear. In 2019, she released a vegan version of the Stan Smith tennis training shoe, which includes Evrnu’s NuCycleTM yarn and KOBA® Fur Free Fur, a sustainable, recyclable animal replacement manufactured from recycled polyester and plant-based plastic.

The boots, which will be available via the Adidas app from October 22 and adidas.com and select retailers from November 1, are priced at £236 for the laced version and £211 for the unlaced version.
