Smart textiles designer Loomia has been awarded an honourable mention in two general categories today by Fast Company and its World Changing Ideas for 2020. Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas awards and honours products, concepts, companies, policies, and designs that are pursuing innovation for the good of society and the planet.
The contest, now in its fourth year, has honoured everything from large companies’ sustainability initiatives, to clever consumer products, to ground-breaking government policies. This year, companies were chosen from 25 different categories, including, but not limited to, AI and Data, Mobile Apps, Energy, and Health and Wellness.
“This award shows the potential of e-textiles as a meaningful technology of the future. According to Gartner’s Technology Hype Cycle, E-Textiles are only a few years from the plateau of productivity and awards like these highlight a more general acknowledgement of the bright future of these materials,” Loomia says.
Loomia specifically designs and manufactures soft circuit systems, known as e-textiles, that can be manufactured at scale. The award-winning Loomia Electronic Layer (LEL) has been recognized for its ability to add a variety of sensing and temperature function to automotive interiors, medical and wellness wearables, and outdoor goods. The LEL is unique in the sense that it is scalable and can be customized to fit any surface area.
