31st India Carpet Expo witnesses large number of buyers

The 31st Edition of India Carpet Expo which was inaugurated on 11th March, by Honorable Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar, in the august presence of Virender Singh, Member of Parliament from Bhadohi, Rashmi Verma, IAS, Secretary (Textiles), Dr. K. Gopal, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and other Senior Govt. Officials from the Central and State Governments.

The 4-day fair has witnessed the overwhelming presence of 400 Overseas Buyers in first 3 days in addition to 325 Buying Representatives, informed The Carpet Export Promotion Council of India (CEPC) in a press release.

Around 270 small, medium and large manufacturers and exporters of Handmade Carpets from different craft pockets of India are showcasing their products in this Expo.

Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that despite a weak global market, the handmade carpet industry in India is growing at an annual rate of 17 per cent.
Speaking at the inauguration of the India Carpet Expo in New Delhi, the minister expressed his happiness and satisfaction at the No. 1 position held by the Indian handmade carpet industry in the international market.

Leading and reputed buyers from US, U.K., Brazil South Africa, & other European Countries who visited the Expo, were very much impressed with the display of various Handmade Carpets and other floor coverings.

CEPC chairman Kuldeep R Wattal said that exports of handmade carpet have been showing an upward trend, possible due only to the full support of the ministry of textiles.
