Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail entered into a multi-store retail and e-commerce license agreement with American Eagle Outfitters Inc. in August 2017.

American Eagle is a $3.8-billion affordable premium denim and casual wear retailer from the US competing with brands such as Wrangler, Levis and Pepe. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd is getting denim and casual wear American Eagle to India and expects the brand to be among the top three in this market in 5-7 years.

A CEO whose company exports to seven other countries, and has almost 150 stores in Turkey, expressed that, “We had been informed that we would need a lot of extra documents for imports from China, so we demanded this meeting.” He added that, “The ministry didn’t ask us to stop producing in China. It was a fruitful meeting. We asked them to postpone the plan until at least January 2019, which the ministry will evaluate.”

After raising tariffs on import from the US, China has contracted to import 500,000 bales (one bale = 170 kg) of cotton from India and the new orders are in addition to the regular ones. Against its consumption of 45 mn bales China produces nearly 32 million bales of cotton annually. India exported nearly a million bales to China last year. As a result, our overall cotton export is likely to rise 21 per cent to seven million bales for the cotton year ending this September, from 5.8 mn bales the previous year.
