Applied DNA appoints Vice President of strategic sales

Acrylonitrile prices remain steady across all regions

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were range-bound in the first week of October underpinned by scarce global supply.

China’s PetroChina Jilin is planning to shut its ACN plant for maintenance in end-October which has 452,000 tons per year of production capacity.

In US, spot ACN prices were steady on the back of firm feedstock cost during the week.

In Europe, ACN spot prices were unchanged in the week while ACN contract settlers were in a process of negotiating the October contract price during the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) meeting.

Nylon-6 chip prices weaken in China

In China, bright conventional spinning nylon-6 prices in the first week of October was down US$15 a ton as compared to last week while semi-dull high-speed spinning fell US$33 a ton on the week.

Taiwan‐origin and South East Asian high-speed nylon chips offers were up US$40 a ton on the week.

11.22% in 2017-18 growth in value added garment sector of the textile industry

Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Chief Coordinator Ijaz Khokhar advised the government to split the textile sector into three categories namely raw material, home textile and apparel adding that the sector presently comprises of multiple sub-sectors, all having different functions and activities. The chief coordinator further stated that the value-added garment sector of the textile industry showed a growth of 11.22% in 2017-18.

Edwin Keh Yee-man, chief executive of the publicly funded Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), which developed the plant’s recycling system, said the move would put the city’s textiles industry back on the map and boost the “made in Hong Kong” mark. He said that, "We could have opened (this mill) in China, 10 times its current size," Also,"But we decided to do it in Hong Kong to prove two things – that we can solve our local textile waste problem locally, and that in such a small, compact city, sustainable (textile recycling) is feasible."

New National Distribution Centre by Cotton On

Cotton On has two distribution centres and another 14 around the world. The Avalon facility will service the company's 400-plus Australian stores as well as online consumers. The 40-hectare Avalon Airport Industrial Precinct is expected to create 750 on-site jobs and another 1100 indirect positions.

Cotton On a Geelong-based fashion company has opened it’s new National Distribution Centre at Avalon Airport, saying the facility will secure the jobs of 300 employees.
