Textile and clothing gets support from ITC

The project ‘Strengthening the International Competitiveness of the Textile and Clothing Sector in selected Middle East and North African Countries’ (MENATEX), is funded with SEK 42 million ($4.63m) from the Swedish government and will be implemented by the Geneva-based ITC in close collaboration with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

The Narimteks LLC was opened in 2008 and was busy in the tailoring of women’s clothing at ordinary sewing machines. Together with Chinese partners, in 2012-2015 the production process was modernized. Modern sewing, weaving and finishing machines were delivered and installed.

As a result, the company mastered the production of suits, coats, jackets and took a solid place in the consumer market, with new jobs also being created.

Activewear brands to assemble for the Apparel Summit of the Americas

The event is being organized and promoted to the US industry by the Americas Apparel Producers’ Network (AAPN). As of the date of this release, 230 people from 115 organizations have registered to attend, including nearly 20 US brands and retailers. On November 27-29, 2018, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, a Who’s Who of US activewear brands will assemble for the Apparel Summit of the Americas. The core event is to tour the grand opening of the new United Textiles of Americas, or UTEXA, synthetic yarn spinning operation.

Strong attendance affirms combined show’s industry-leading position in the region. ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018, the region’s leading textile machinery exhibition, ended successfully after five days of exciting product demonstrations and business networking.

The sixth combined exhibition welcomed visitorship of over 100,000 from 116 countries and regions, with an increase of 10 per cent from domestic visitors compared to the 2016 show. About 20 per cent of the visitors came from outside of China.

Moody holds eleven patents in the nonwovens field and has been involved in the design and startup of ten nonwoven production lines (six in the USA, two in Europe, and two in China). During his career, he held critical roles in Johnson & Johnson (Chicopee), PGI Nonwovens, and now Berry Global, Inc.

Moody has been an active INDA Member for over 25 years. He has also been an active member in The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) at NCSU for over 20 years, is the current Scientific Advisory Board chair at NWI, and participates as an Industrial Technical Advisor to Graduate students.

Nylon-6 chip prices see mixed trend while supply was still high

In China, bright conventional spinning nylon-6 prices rose US$10 a ton in the week ended 26 October 2018 while semi-dull high-speed spinning chip was down US$4 a ton on the week.

Nylon or polyamide chip prices were mostly down amid low feedstock cost in the week. In China, offers for semi-dull nylon chip declined but the drop slowed down that week week as buyers started to bottom-fish.

Polyester chip producers lower offers amid poor buying interest

Asian marker, FOB Taiwan/Korea for semi-dull continuous spinning fibre grade chip fell US$67 a ton in the week ended 26 October 2018. In China, semi dull chip offers was also down US$67 a ton as compared to last week while offers for super bright chip fell US$89 a ton on the week. CDP chip offers declined US$75 a ton on the week.

Wilder says they have harvested seventy-five of the nine-hundred acres of cotton they planted. “Typically we’re through by now, preparing seed beds for next year, planting wheat, doing other things, but here we are almost November first and just really getting geared up to hopefully get started picking.”
