PHMA seeks detail procedure for applying DDT

The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) seeking detailed procedure for applying drawback of duty and taxes (DDT) claims under the revised PM’s export package, as the process of application for DDT has not yet been formulated.

ECC had approved the revised package for exporters in early October and the textile ministry had notified this immediately. But even after a lapse of almost one and half month, no detailed circular was issued by the central bank regarding procedure of drawbacks, PHMA Chairman Khurram Anwar Khawaja said.

Cone Denim leading supplier of denim fabrics to top denim apparel brands since 1891 announced that the company is incorporating Unifi’s Repreve brand yarn, a recycled material into a stretch denim fabric called S Gene introduced a decade ago.

Delores Sides, a spokesman for Cone Denim, said that the company's S Gene stretch technology dates back to 2007. Back then it was described by Cone Denim as a "breakthrough" collection of premium stretch technology that conformed to the body without sacrificing softness.

The cotton market on Tuesday witnessed renewed buying interest as spinners sought to replenish their stocks, paying premium price for good lint. Consequently, prices remained on the higher side discouraging buying at large scale.

Due to high cotton prices, phutti (seed cotton) prices moved higher and were being quoted in the range of Rs2,900-3,300 for Sindh quality and Rs3,000-3,400 for Punjab variety.

Higher cotton yarn prices were also adversely impacting yarn market as they threaten value-added textile industry’s viability.

Togo expects 20pc increase in cotton output during ongoing season

Togo, a West African nation on the Gulf of Guinea, during the ongoing season 2017-18 which open in May this year expects cotton production of 130,000 tons an increase of 20.37 percent over last season’s cotton output of 108,000 tons, according to the estimates released by the Nouvelle Société Cotonnière du Togo (NSCT).

The increase in cotton production is expected as cotton is sown on 170,000 hectares compared to the planned sown area of 160,000 hectares.
