PTA prices firm up in Asia

Asian PTA prices, CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia marker were both firm in the third week of January. In China, offers for bonded goods were up US$5 a ton during the week.

Purified terephthalic acid prices in Asia were stable to up that week on the back of firm upstream values. PTA market is likely to see weak correction in the coming week as demand weakened. However, since several major PTA units will undergo maintenance in February, together with strong cost support, PTA market will still hold strong capability to resist price drop.

In Europe, PTA prices rolled over during the week while January contract price was heard up for the month.

In US, PTA prices were steady on the week.
