ASF prices steady despite climbing upstream cost

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the third week of May. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow was offered at US$1.55-1.65 a kg while offers for regular products were traded at US$1.50-1.55 a kg, both unchanged from last week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices remained range bound that week, although upstream acrylonitrile cost has been climbing steadily over the past few weeks. Firming ACN prices also meant cost support to ASF makers.

In China, transaction remained subdued without any highlights, as downstream yarn and fabric sectors were still in off-season.

Sentiment generally remained unchanged in India and Pakistan, as ASF prices rolled over on the week as downstream demand was limited.

In India, ASF offers were down US cent 1 a kg due to weak INR.

In Pakistan, 1.2D ASF prices were stable during the week.
