ASF prices hold firm amid limited availability

In China, ASF prices were stable in the week ended 21 September 2018 with medium-length fibre and cotton-type offers rolling over as compared to last week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were largely firm in the Asian markets of China, India and Pakistan India during the week. In China, ASF offers were unchanged amid overall weak downstream demand while some producers shut down units to resist high feedstock cost as ACN market was at high level.

Average plant run rate in China reduced significantly to 38% during the week as most units were idle while others had cut production. As a result, availability was limited.

Overall, ASF market will only recover if producers hike prices in coming weeks.
