India to become self sufficient in silk

Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Friday affirmed that India would become \'completely self-sufficient\' in silk in the next two years. She said that in the production of silk, India is second after China. Irani was addressing a programme organised by business chamber FICCI. She also said that technical textiles is the future of textiles and that she was keen on taking it forward.

Nike powered by renewable energy

Nike has opened a new distribution centre powered entirely by renewable energy as part of its ambition to reduce its carbon footprint to zero. The company says the 1.5 million square feet centre, called the Court, in the Belgian town of Ham, is fuelled by wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass power. The Courts rack-supported structure required less steel and concrete, minimising waste and reducing material used in the construction process.
