Pakistan value-added textile sector hamstrung by cash crunch as more than Rs 205 billion refunds has been stuck up with the government. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) still withholds more than Rs 13 billion under Drawback on Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL) claims and about Rs 17 billion sales taxes under refund claims, causing immense problems to the textile industry, according to Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA).

The joint anti-pirate textile task force set up by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) to curb textile smuggling and pirated designs into the country. The team comprise the Deputy Trade Minister, Murtala Mohammed, and members of the joint task force drawn from textile producers, vendors, and officials of MOTI, seized pirated textiles at various border entry points and markets in the country.

The team has destroyed a total of 3,500 pieces of pirated Ghanaian textile designs it seized at the Kpone land fill site this week.

Union Minister for Textiles (Independent charge) Santosh Gangwar has put up a written proposal requesting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to connect the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme with the Textile Ministry.
