Not enough textile waste is recycled across Europe. Since 2015, the Horizon 2020 project Resyntex has been looking to tackle this issue by showcasing innovative circular economy concepts for the textiles and chemical industries.

Acrylonitrile (ACN) prices in Asian markets saw mixed trends in the second week of February with prices in Far East Asia declining while that in South East surged during the week. In the US, acrylonitrile export prices were kept firm that week while unexpected supply disruptions are expected to push the prices up in the first quarter of 2019.

Nylon or polyamide chip (nylon-6) prices moved up in the second week of February in line with higher CPL cost. In China, offers for nylon chip prices were raised driven by surging raw materials cost during the week. Most of the downstream mills had previously stocked up materials before holidays. However, inventory level is low post-holiday and it is likely that nylon chip producers may increase their run rates to fill the inventory levels.

In China, semi-dull polyester chip (or PET) offers were mostly stable in the second week of February as downstream buyers were slowly resuming operations in the week. Markets were also cautious due to increasing supply recently. Further, many PET chip producers restarted their plants already which lead to more supply in the market. On the contrary, downstream mills were taking time to resume.

Polyester staple fibre (PSF) prices were range-bound in the Asian markets of China, India and Pakistan after the Lunar New Year holidays. PSF offers in China were kept firm in the second week of February underpinned by stable polyester chip markets. Market sentiment was largely quiet after the holiday week while PSF producers were slowly restarting their units later in the week. Market supply is expected to increase due to plant restarts and new start-ups. Overall, PSF offers are expected to soften in coming weeks due to increased supply.
