Buyers rushing to get hold of maximum lint quantity regardless its quality

Buyers initially seen chasing limited quantity of quality cotton realizing that under the developing scenario lint imports after rupee devaluation will become costlier. Buyers are rushing to get hold of maximum lint quantity, regardless of its quality at the cotton market on Tuesday which once again pushed cotton prices to a seasonal peak of Rs7,100 per maund.

The buyers were also not optimistic about imports of cotton from India since a large-scale pest attack has drastically slashed the crop size.

Ethiopian textile, garment exports earns USD 31.2 mn over last 3 months

The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute disclosed that the foreign currency generated from the textile sector has been steadily growing. Over the last three months Ethiopia has earned USD 31.2 million from textile and garment export.

The Ethiopian textile products have entered into Germany, Italy, China and United States through AGOA stated Institute Communication Directorate Director Bantihun Gessesse.

Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) forecast Australian cotton production to grow by four percent to 968,000 tonnes in this season 2017-18 largely driven by an increase in yields in irrigated plantings.

In the ongoing cotton season, total area planted to cotton is forecast to decline by 10 per cent to 500,000 hectares due to a decrease in the availability of irrigation water and dry seasonal conditions at the opening of the planting window. This forecast is a smaller decline than forecast in Agricultural commodities: September quarter 2017.

Nylon yarn prices stable-to-soft in Asia

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD and FDY40D prices both fell US cents 8 in the last week of November. Nylon DTY prices were stable with 70D/24F and 30D/10F offered flat on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over during the week.

Caprolactum prices rise on modest downstream buying

In China, spot liquid good offers were up US$58 a ton in the last week of November while solid goods were up US$43 a ton on the week. CPL offers moved up slightly week on week amid modest buying interest from the downstream.

Caprolactum prices in Asia rose that week, however, there was ample supply as plants operated at higher run rates during the week. Luxi Chemical started its 200,000 tons a year CPL new line on 28 November 2017, and products were to be yielded around the weekend of the week ended 3 December.

Chinese cotton imports to recover than expected this season

The US Department of Agriculture’s Beijing bureau pegged at 1.30m tonnes (5.97m bales) China’s cotton imports in 2017-18, on an August-to-July basis. A rise of more than 200,000 tonnes year on year – far bigger than the 58,000-tonne increase, to 1.15m tonnes (5.30m bales), that the USDA has officially penciled in.

The bureau’s estimate comes amid persistent market talk that China may be poised for accelerating buy-ins, with some rumours of a potential increase to the import quota of 894,000 tonne allowed in with a 1% tariff, under an agreement with the World Trade Organization.

Prices at cotton market for the second time in the season seen crossing above the Rs7,000 mark to reach Rs7,050 per maund. However, strong buying was witnessed on Monday as spinners preferred to get quality lint and were willing to pay premium price for Sindh variety. But the trading activity at cotton market remained restricted due to short supply of quality lint.

Also the rupee-dollar parity is going to impact cotton imports which will become costlier in case the rupee value declines against dollar.
