A group of young designers who are studying arts and design in New Zealand showcased a "Mi-LOHAS Fashion Show 2021". Most of the designers are of Chinese origin who presented the show on Tuesday in Auckland, New Zealand.
LOHAS stands for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability, which focus on promoting and advocating the theme of "sustainable fashion."
The organizer said that the concept of LOHAS was developed under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and implies the means of caring for people and finding a way to live in a sustainable way. Keeping in mind the goal, during the eye-catching show the designers can use only recycled fabrics, sustainable materials, and natural dyes free of any harmful substances.
Gloria Zhang, the show director said that the young designers were ambitious to transform the industry in their own sustainable ways while the like-minded designers shared the concept that the ecological and environmental problems caused by the fashion industry were serious.
She added that they selected like-minded designers, which were all fresh graduates or current students majoring in fashion design, and gave them the freedom to come up with designs as per their own understanding of sustainability.
Designer Angie Li used mud, pomegranate, madder root, and logwood to dye her design range. She said that the most important part of her work is experimentation hence the production of this series was full of fun. She realized in the end that without compromising with the quality, design, or performance, she can completely use sustainable materials to create all products. A new era is symbolized by this plan.
Designer Lydia Li created her design by recreating and remixing Chinese buckles, mandarin collars, Victorian elements, and punk culture. She said that through her designs she wanted to show the concept of recyclability and express the inclusiveness of clothing and cultural diversity.
The environmental protection and ethical awareness of the fashion industry since the 21st century are gradually stimulated and increased throughout the world. The concept of sustainable fashion conveys that all sectors of society work together to try for the coexistence of fashion and environmental protection. In the fashion industry, more and more people have begun to try to incorporate environmental protection concepts into their designs in recent years.
