Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., the Teijin Group's fibers and products converting company, announced today that it has developed a proprietary system for calculating CO2 emissions generated by the company's polyester fiber production processes, with the goal of using it for the full life cycle assessments of its goods in the future.
The new system uses data from its manufacturing bases to calculate CO2 emissions caused by the company's polyester fiber production operations. To quantify the effect, the new tool examines differences in emissions between petroleum-derived fibers and recycled fibers.
The system helps in determining which processes need to be modified in order to reduce environmental loads even more, and better CO2 emission reduction strategies can be considered.
Teijin Frontier has already begun utilizing the technology to assess emissions from the manufacture of polyester filaments and staple fibers, and will eventually broaden the scope to include woven and colored textiles. In addition, the corporation intends to encourage partners to use the system.
Teijin Frontier is working to increase its environmental value, particularly through eco-friendly plant management and the creation of greener materials and products for applications ranging from clothes to industrial materials, as part of its 'Think Eco' environmental initiative.
The company plans to improve its contribution to the realization of circular economies by implementing and upgrading the newly developed CO2 emissions calculation system.
To further its sustainable goals, the company joined Fashion for Good at the end of last year.
