Gianvito Rossi speed up its sustainability efforts

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-01-03 12:29:25 – Italy

Italy-based luxury footwear specialist Gianvito Rossi, has launched a new sustainability roadmap that builds on its eco-friendly plan, which was launched in 2019 in collaboration with the University of Bologna, the world's oldest university.

Gianvito Rossi, the company’s founder, said that as a company, they are obliged to make items of lasting value, and as customers, they are pushed to buy more ethically. Their sustainability goal is inspired not only by a moral obligation but also by the knowledge that sustainable manufacturing can help progress our supply chain and benefit our community and future generations.

The company is retooling its sustainability strategy by evaluating its whole supply chain, beginning with raw materials and processes, which are assessed using quantitative measures and data collected across three pillars: the environment, social responsibility, and economic sustainability.

Gianvito Rossi, in particular, is analyzing its energy consumption and waste management, which has already helped it to reduce its carbon footprint by 60% by applying circular economy practices. It is switching to renewable energy sources and has partnered with a start-up that can help lower consumption using AI-enabled technologies.

In the medium run, the premium footwear firm will use data from the trial phase to expand its use of the circular economy across processes, enhancing its green credentials.

The company, like many of its premium contemporaries, has started a replanting programme to offset carbon dioxide emissions that cannot be reduced any other way.

Gianvito Rossi has committed to assessing all of its suppliers and distributors by 2025 in order to compensate for all Scope 3 GHG emissions and achieve carbon neutrality across its pipeline.
