Among specialty yarns, (both cotton and non-cotton) mercerized yarns and syn-thetic shoody yarns showed promising increases in January 2009.

While 24 thousand kgs of mercerized yarns were exported (as against 9 thousand kgs in January 2008) during the month, 251 thousand kgs of shoddy yarns were exported (as against 185 thousand kgs in January 2008), However, unit price realization de-clined in case of mercerized yarns (US$4.63/kg, -29%) while that of shoddy yarns improved (US$1.08/kg, +3.5%).
