Overview
Viscose enjoyed a growth of 9.7% achieving a volume of 2.6 million tons in 2006. Viscose holds a 7.3% share in total man made fibre production. In 2006, the output of VSF was 2,270 (9.7%) thousand tons and that of VFY was 427 (9.8%) thousand tons. Given below is the chart of top four major producing countries. This shows the average growth rate of viscose from 2000 - 2006..
Production of viscose, the close substitute for cotton, increased 10% to 2,700 thousand tons in 2006. China is the major consumer of viscose with consumption levels touching 1,500 thousand tons in 2006. India and Indonesia also consumes around 300 – 350 thousand tons of viscose a year.
