PREFACE
The \ World Fibre & Turkey - Trends in Demand and Supply\ is the Seventh annual compendium in a series from YarnsandFibers covering the trends in global demand and supply of textile fibre/filament industry. The compilation covers all major fibre producing countries accounting for 85% of global pro-duction and consumption. In this Report we have captured the trends seen in 2011 in textile fi-bre/filament industry including natural fibres, particularly cotton. The analysis assesses the positions of fibres/filaments industry as events unfolded.

The Report\ s 21 pages are richly annotated with authoritative and unbiased objective description, and hard-to-find statistical facts. The report also provides unequivocal views on future potential while throwing light on the prevailing climate in key regional markets and projections upto 2017 of availabil-ity and demand for all fibres.

The Report is divided into two sections: Fibre-wise View and Region/Country wise View.

The first section covers World production of manmade and natural fibers for the period 1990 to 2011.

The second section covers details on Turkey. Tabulation includes volumes of capacity, production, ex-port, import and apparent consumption, along with CARGs for the periods 1990-2000, 2000-2011 and the growth rate in 2011.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Turkey was the ninth largest producer of fibre/filament in the world in 2011 with cotton, acrylic and nylon as the major segments. It was the world\ s second largest importer of fibre/filament, second only to China, thus becoming the fifth largest market in the world. In 2011, it accounted for 2% of world’s fi-bre/filament with production volume of 1.43 million tons. During the year, it imported 1.29 million tons of fibre/filament.

During 2011, Turkey was the second largest producer and consumer of acrylic fibre, thus becoming the second largest importer of ASF. It was the largest importer of polyester filament yarn and viscose staple fibre, thus becoming the seventh largest market for PFY. In viscose, it was the fourth largest consumer of staple fibre and tenth in filament yarn. With 480,000 hectares of land under cotton, Tur-key was the eighth largest producer of cotton fibre and being the third largest importer of cotton stood as fourth largest consumer of cotton.
