PREFACE
The World Fibre & Taiwan - Trends in Demand and Supply is the Seventh annual compendium in a series from YarnsandFibers covering the trends in global demand and supply of textile fibre/filament industry. In this Report we have captured the trends seen in 2011 in textile fibre/filament industry in-cluding natural fibres, particularly cotton. The analysis assesses the positions of fibres/filaments in-dustry as events unfolded.

The Report s 20 pages are richly annotated with authoritative and unbiased objective description, and hard-to-find statistical facts. The report also provides unequivocal views on future potential while throwing light on the prevailing climate in key regional markets and projections upto 2017 of availabil-ity and demand for all fibres.

The Report is divided into two sections: Fibre-wise View and Region/Country wise View.

The first section covers World production of manmade and natural fibers for the period 1990 to 2011.

The second section covers details on Taiwan. Tabulation includes volumes of capacity, production, export, import and apparent consumption, along with CARGs for the periods 1990-2000, 2000-2011 and the growth rate in 2011.

HIGHLIGHTS
Taiwan was the third largest producer manmade fibre/filament in the world in 2011 accounting for 4.7% of world produce. In 2011, it produced 2.14 million tons of manmade fibres as against 2.31 million tons it produced in 2010 This implies a decline of 7.5%. It was the sixth largest producers of acrylic staple fibre, third in nylon and polyester filament and fifth in polyester staple fibre. It was also the fifth largest viscose staple fibre producer in 2011. However, its share has been steadily declining since 1990 as China was ramping up rapidly compared to other textile economy.

About 9.3% of World s nylons and 4.7% of polyester filament yarn originated from Taiwan. In 2011, PFY production, however, declined 5.7% continuing the falling trend seen between 2000 and 2010 while that of PSF also declined faster at 8.9% much faster than the growth recorded between 2000 and 2011. In case of nylon, it recorded a decline of 8% in 2011. Nylon production has been declining 0.7% during the period 2000-11. In 1990s, production had expanded 8% per annum.
