Pakistan - Garment exporters await EU trade concessions
Dated- 11 Apr , 2012 - Pakistan
Pakistan Ready-made Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) said the exporters are anxiously awaiting reports regarding EU Trade Concessions Package for Pakistan for 75 products. Central Chairman, PRGMEA, Shehzad Salim said member companies were calling association offices everyday for updates on this and we were unable to give them a reply because we have no new updates.
Our member are trying to convince their EU customer to buy from them claiming this duty free access, however when the customer contacts the EU customs they have no such information and all negotiations come to stand still.
He said the package was now with the EU Council and the EU Parliament and these two bodies have to finalise modalities and implement the package. Exporters were expecting good news after the Easter holidays but according to sources, the concessions package is not on EU Council’s agenda for their meeting scheduled on April 12, this means they should expect even further delays.
