Standard Textile expanding its existing Union County manufacturing facility

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2014-12-11 16:00:00 – COLUMBIA

Standard Textile, a leading global provider of end-to-end solutions for the institutional textile and apparel markets, is expanding its existing Union County manufacturing facility located at 100 Highpoint Drive in Union with a $5 million capital investment to accommodate increasing terry towel finishing capabilities. This was announced by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s office on Wednesday.

Standard Textile will expand the facility by 39,000 square-feet. The project is expected to open doors for new partnerships and opportunities in Standard Textile’s yarn spinning, yarn preparation, and weaving processes.

The expansion in Union marks the beginning of Standard Textile’s North American manufacturing strategy, and demonstrates how the company is making greater use of its global web of manufacturing facilities in order to serve customers.

Standard Textile will work with the state technical college system’s ReadySC program to fill the new jobs . It is expected to create 35 new jobs in Union.

The investment in South Carolina is part of Standard Textile’s overall effort to bring manufacturing back — in a significant way — to all of its U.S.-based facilities, which remained operative when other textile companies left America. Union County Supervisor and County Council Chairman Thomas Sinclair congratulating Standard Textile said that they have remained competitive in a non-textile environment. The multimillion-dollar investment and increase in jobs well complements the notable job expansion in Union over the last several years. It’s always exciting to see an international company like Standard Textile choose to grow and invest in their state.

Standard Textile’s growing presence underscores that South Carolina is known for making quality products the world over.

Standard Textile founded in 1940 and headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, operates 29 manufacturing and distribution facilities in 16 countries, including two operations in South Carolina. As a worldwide firm, Standard Textile employs a workforce of more than 4,000 and serves customers in the healthcare, hospitality, interior products, and industrial apparel marketplaces.
