Manteco says waste is 'precious raw material'

Italian textile company Manteco exhibited at Première Vision’s Smart Creation for the first time, showing its range of recycled wool products, including blends with Tencel.

The company processes 1,650 tonnes of recycled material per year, often starting with post-consumer material, which CEO Matteo Mantellassi describes as “a precious raw material for some of the most cutting-edge developments”.

Its suppliers work within 10km of the company’s home in Prato. “Made in Italy does not mean processing high-quality materials with international technologies and then label the final product for export. It means products grown, taken care of and handcrafted in the country.

“There’s a further step to this: harnessing the local ‘genius loci’, meaning the skills, traditions and human potential of a territory. We are proud to say that since 1943 we have always been 100% Made in Italy.”

Renowa by Manteco is made using customers’ fabric scraps, while Woolten blends the recycled wool with Tencel by Lenzing.

Manteco has Global Recycle Standard and Responsible Wool Standard certification. The company is member of the Better Cotton Initiative and has introduced an annual sustainability report based on the Global Reporting Initiative.
