Visitors to the fair will have an opportunity to appreciate the high level of technology being proposed by more than 100 exhibitors from Germany, including more than 80 VDMA member companies. They cover nearly all different machinery chapters with a focus on spinning, nonwoven, weaving, knitting, warp knitting and finishing. The overall exhibition space occupied by German machinery manufacturers is more than 7,000 square meters, confirming Germany’s leading position among exhibiting foreign countries. The German exhibitors increased their booth space by approximately 15 % compared to 2016.

The TEA President said he had already met Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani over the issue, with a request to mandate that Cotton Corporation of India ensure availability of enough quantity with desired quality to protect the interests of farmers, the textile industry and also to generate employment. He said that, the impact of the price increase has made textile mills increase yarn prices which ultimately affect downstream value added sectors like weaving, knitting, garmenting and made ups, particularly value added exporters, as they could not hike the price, fixed more than three to five months back.

Exports are estimated at 61 lakh bales as on April-end.The Statistics Committee of CAI has projected total cotton supply up to April 30, 2018 at 347 lakh bales. This includes market arrivals of 311 lakh bales and imports estimated at 6 lakh bales, the CAI statement said.

Also, the units could get a 4 to 5% cost advantage, the sources added. Total imports during the last cotton season (2016-2017) were 30.94 lakh bales and the previous year it was 22.79 lakh bales. The total imports this season (October 2017 to September 2018) might cross 20 lakh bales, said Nishanth Asher, a partner with cotton trading firm RS Asher and Company.
