Italian textile machinery companies will assist Bangladeshi companies in further upgrading their technology which will help to produce world-class products.
Visiting leaders of Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) told a press conference at a city hotel as part of their three-day programme.
President of ACIMIT Dr Salmoiraghi, Director Federico Pellegata and Trade Commissioner Erica Di Giovancarlo, among others, addressed the press conference.
The ACIMIT leaders said Bangladesh has been one of the few countries which has constantly been watching a growth in demand for textile machinery, despite the difficulties arising from economic crisis that involved various markets in the world.
Italian Trade Commission and ACIMIT are planning to set up a training centre in Bangladesh with an institute or university to impart training on various textile machines relevant for this market
While presenting a paper, Dr Salmoiraghi said in Italy, there are approximately 300 companies who produce textile machines and related accessories for a total of about 13,900 employees.
At the world level, Italy is one of the main suppliers of textile machinery together with Germany, Japan and Switzerland, he added.
Dr Salmoiraghi said the sales of Italian textile machinery to Bangladesh during January to September of 2009 amounting to 18 million euros, with Bangladesh ranking fourth among Asian markets for the Italian textile machinery behind China, India and Turkmenistan.
The visiting Italian business leaders said the Italian Trade Commission in cooperation with ACIMIT is organizing a business mission of Italian Textile machinery producers in Bangladesh from March 8 to 10.
The aim of this mission is to further strengthen the institutional relations and create a favourable environment and develop ties between Italian and Bangladeshi companies, they said, adding 14 major Italian companies will offer state-of-the- art machines.
