Federal Textile Minister, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan has stressed upon the need of research, development and training in textile sector that could result in enhanced exports and fetch billions of dollars of foreign exchange. He was speaking at a ceremony to distribute the certificates among the 70 successful women trainees who have completed their training under Stitching Machine Operator Training Program of Ministry of Textile at Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) on Tuesday.
He said that government wanted to avoid the shortage of skilled workers for the readymade garments sector and the objective of this exercise was to train large number of skilled stitching machine operators to provide support to textile garment sector. Minister said that sixty percent remaining RandD fund would soon be released by Ministry of Finance to State Bank of Pakistan. He said textile policy has been announced for the first time in 62 years and assured the industry that this would be followed and implemented in letter and spirit.
Rana said that government is seriously committed in supporting the textile industry as its not only the largest foreign exchange earner for Pakistan but also the largest employment producing industry. He said that our international friends should open up their markets for our textile products and remove all kind of restrictions imposed in textile imports from Pakistan.
